There's a few things going on just now, so let's go with a bullet point style update:

The sociology essay (on Marx and Weber and class inequality in modern Britain) is finished.

Guideline: 1500 to 2000 words.
Essay: 1650 words.

It should be enough to pass anyway, as most of the words make sense in the context I've used them and it's a first year class so they're not looking for much. I think.

Truth be told, I only spent about 6 hours on the essay so I don't really deserve to pass, but I just couldn't get into the subject. And if I pass this one I'll never need to study sociology again - I can stick with the subjects I'm good at (economics, history and maybe a bit of politics).

Fingers crossed!

I'm totally drinking Cinzano in bed and eyeing up the chocolate-filled 'Luxury cream wafer' biscuits.

Not sure if booze and diclofenac are a prohibited combination right enough. I'm sure the hangover or lack thereof will inform me in the morning though...

For those of you not on Facebook, J and I have decided to take some time apart after five years.

We're still very good friends, and will be seeing each other regularly. We both need our own space just now, which is a positive thing. The way I'm looking at it is that I've not lost a partner - more found a great friend.

And yes, I've opened a bottle of wine for the evening.

1) Today I had more recognition of my awesomeness at work. I've now been put forward to attend training to be a training person on the new student database.

2) The noise from the lecture theatre next door is driving me demented. It's being refitted and there is much drilling.

3) Everyone at work thinks my new haircut is all kinds of awesome. J, however, is very much not impressed.

End.

Have you ever had your feelings hurt by an animal?

Yes, on a daily basis.

Either by the ignoring game, the running away game, or the look of disdain the cats give me when the food I put out for them apparently isn't good enough.

They do make up for it when they're in an affectionate mood though.

We're now over the really busy time at work - a lot of what I'm doing now is either preparation for the students coming back in September or testing of the new student records database. It's not exactly quiet but there are times when I'm trying to find anything other than filing to do.

Outside work, I've no classes or resits or anything, and no impending deadlines for writing music for anybody. There is a mammoth nine-and-a half minute piece I'm writing for somebody, but not much else.

I guess I'm at a bit of a loose end really. No big projects or anything to work on, and nothing keeping me particularly busy. It's kinda weird. The only thing I've really done recently is a bit of urban exploration - climbing around a derelict seminary (pics over on my Flickr account).

I think I need a new project for the summer. Maybe I'll do a bit more of the interior design course that's been sitting doing nothing in my desk for the last year.
(And maybe by committing it in writing to my LJ I might seriously actually complete some of it instead of just think about it!)

How many different places (cities, houses, apartments, dorm rooms, etc.) have you lived in? Which is your favorite? And your least favorite?

1. Grandparents' house in Halifax. It was a lovely area back then - quite posh in fact - nowadays it's supposedly not too great.

2. Parents' house just above the village of Midgley, near Halifax. It had beautiful views, was a lovely house, very little to do round about though - it was two miles to the nearest shop!

3. Reith Hall, Glasgow Uni halls of residence. I had very good times there, though I did have my records and CDs stolen in a break-in. Not good.

4. The student flat in Ruchill, Glasgow. It started off great, but descended into arguments after a few years.

5. The studio flat in Linthouse, Glasgow. This one was tiny but absolutely lovely. The first place I lived on my own. Pity it was so close to the water treatment plant though - the smell in summer was unbearable!

6. The flat with the Psycho Ex in Govan, Glasgow. The flat was kinda okay-ish (other than the awful terracotta coloured walls), but the two years I lived there were a very bad time generally.

7. The second Govan flat with J and the cats. It was a n ice enough flat, problems with the neighbours and the close though.

8. The current flat, right across the road from the flat I stayed in with The Psycho Ex. However, the flat is much lovelier and a decent size, the close has been fine so far, and it's generally fab. Definitely my favourite - particularly because it's the first place that J and I have 'officially' lived together now that we're both on the lease.
